Fleet Admin Guide: PC and YM Modes

Updated today

The Personal Conveyance (PC) and Yard Move (YM) modes in GPSTab allow drivers limited movement of their trucks without affecting their driving time or Hours of Service (HOS).

Personal Conveyance is used when a driver is off-duty and moving the truck for personal reasons - for example, driving to a mall nearby or to a parking spot after a delivery.

Yard Move is used to move a vehicle within a yard or terminal area while remaining on-duty.

Admins can enable these modes individually for each driver in the Admin Panel by going to Fleet → Drivers → Edit (pencil icon) and checking the Personal Conveyance and/or Yard Move boxes.

Click Save, and remind the driver to log out and back in to see the changes in their app.

Drivers in PC or YM will see their screens locked in “In Motion” or “Idle” mode for safety and compliance reasons.

When in YM, movement over 20 mph automatically switches the status to Driving.

When in PC or YM, the mode turns off automatically if the system detects engine activity, such as starting or shutting down.

Please keep in mind: PC records intermediate locations but doesn’t log odometer readings or engine hours, following FMCSA rules.

These features must be managed responsibly - each company decides when PC and YM are allowed based on its safety policy.

GPSTab follows FMCSA guidelines to record intermediate locations and keep logs accurate while in these modes.
