The Recap and Split Sleeper Berth (SSB) tools in GPSTab help admins support driver flexibility and reduce HOS risk across the fleet.
Drivers’ Cycle clock provides 70 working hours (On-Duty + Driving) over 8 days, and after day 8, they may reset or continue on Recap.
A 34-hour reset requires 34 consecutive hours OFF Duty (or OFF Duty + Sleeper Berth) and restores a new 70-hour Cycle.
However, you can use Recap as an alternative, which returns hours worked 8 days ago, letting drivers operate longer without a reset.
On day 8, a 5th “Recap” clock appears in the driver logbook and admin panel showing possible hours for tomorrow. These Recap hours are next-day only and cannot be applied to the current day.
At midnight, Recap hours are added into the Cycle if the driver still has some Cycle time remaining until midnight. Recap repeats daily until a reset is taken, and usage is unlimited unless the driver runs out of Cycle hours.
All main HOS limits still apply during Recap, so Approaching Violation alerts and the four clocks remain critical for compliance.
Split Sleeper Berth (SSB)
Split Sleeper Berth (SSB) is a flexible HOS rule that lets drivers “split” their required 10-hour break into two qualifying rest periods, so they can recharge in stages and keep rolling legally without losing time
To enable the SSB - Go to Admin Panel → Settings → Fleet Settings → “Allow Split Sleeper Berth.”
Once enabled, SSB applies to all drivers and cannot be disabled later.
With SSB on, drivers may split a 10-hour break into two qualifying periods: one 2+ hours OFF Duty (or Sleeper/PC) and one 7+ hours in Sleeper Berth, totaling 10+ hours.
GPSTab recalculates available time after the first qualifying break and finalizes it after the second, helping drivers plan rest without violating limits.
