Follow these steps to connect your ELD to the tablet and ensure it’s working correctly.

1. Plug in the ELD

Make sure the ELD is securely connected to your truck’s diagnostic port - a 9-pin or OBD-II port, usually located under the steering wheel to the left of the driver’s seat.

Check that your GPSTab app is open, Bluetooth is turned on, and you are logged in.

Note: You do not need to pair your ELD via Bluetooth manually - it connects automatically when the app is launched.

2. Check Connection Status

Look at the top of the main screen in the GPSTab app.

If you don’t see a “Scanning/Connecting” line, your ELD is connected successfully.

3. Driving and Idle Modes

Once connected, the app automatically switches to Driving Mode when your vehicle reaches 5 mph.

While driving, the screen is locked and shows “In Motion” in the top left corner - you won’t be able to change your duty status during this time.

When your vehicle stops or slows below 5 mph, it switches to Idle Mode, showing “Idle” and an open lock icon.

At IDLE, you can update your duty status or perform other actions in the app.

If your truck remains idle for 5 minutes, a pop-up will ask if you’d like to change your status. If no action is taken within 60 seconds, it will automatically switch to On Duty.

After the ELD connects, everything runs automatically - your logs, HOS clocks, and motion detection will all update based on vehicle activity.

Troubleshooting Connection or Scanning Issues

If your app shows scanning errors or fails to connect to the ELD, follow these quick steps:

Step 1: Power Down the System

Turn off the engine and log out of the GPSTab app completely.

Step 2: Reset the Hardware

Unplug the ELD device from the vehicle’s diagnostic port and restart the tablet to refresh the connection.

Step 3: Reconnect the ELD Device

Plug the ELD device back into the diagnostic port, turn on the tablet’s Bluetooth, and make sure it’s enabled.

Step 4: Restart and Sync the System

Log back into the GPSTab app.

Before starting the engine, confirm that:

  • The GPSTab app is open and active.

  • The ELD device is securely connected, and the lights are on.

This step ensures that the system accurately records your driving time in accordance with ELD regulations.

Following these steps usually resolves most scanning or connection issues.
